Two ambient air monitoring stations are sited near the vicinity of the Durham York Energy Centre (DYEC) in consultation with the Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP). Ambient air monitoring commenced in May 2013. An upwind (background) ambient air monitoring station is located on the Courtice Water Pollution Control Plant property and a downwind ambient air monitoring station is located at Baseline and Rundle Road. Both the upwind and downwind stations monitor the following contaminants:
- Continuous emissions monitoring (CEM): Nitrogen oxides (NOx), Sulphur dioxide (SO2), Particulate matter less than 2.5 microns in diameter (PM2.5)
- Non-continuous monitoring: Total Suspended Particulate Matter (TSP), Metals (in TSP), Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs), Dioxins and Furans.
