Ash Sampling and Testing Protocol

The Ash Sampling and Testing Protocol outlines the methodology used to handle, sample, test and safely dispose of bottom and fly ash generated from the Durham York Energy Centre (DYEC). The Ash Sampling and Testing Protocol has been prepared to satisfy the following conditions, guidelines and regulations:
- Environmental Compliance Approval (ECA) Condition 7(7), 7(8), 7(9), 7(11), 7(12), 7(13)
- Ministry's document entitled “Principles of Sampling and Analysis of Waste for TCLP under Ontario Regulation 347”, dated February 2002, as amended
- Ministry's document entitled “Protocol for Sampling and Evaluating Fly Ash from Non-Hazardous Solid Waste Facilities”, dated October 1990
- O.Reg 347 - Waste Management
The Testing Protocol also recognizes that residual waste (bottom and fly ash) generated by DYEC will be disposed at approved waste disposal sites either within or outside the Province of Ontario, in accordance with the above regulations, the ECA and applicable local requirements established by the receiving location.
