The Groundwater and Surface Water Monitoring Plan has been prepared to satisfy Condition 20 of the Environmental Assessment Notice of Approval (EA), Condition 7(14) of the Environmental Compliance Approval (ECA), as well as applicable regulatory criteria and accepted industry practices. The Groundwater and Surface Water Monitoring Plan is designed to provide an understanding of both groundwater and surface water quality during the construction and operation of the facility to ensure ongoing environmental management of the site.
The plan includes monitoring wells installed at each of the four corners of the property to monitor downgradient and upgradient water quality, and two wells installed central to the facility to monitor potential leakage from the waste storage area. All monitoring wells are sampled three times annually, and results are included in the annual reports. Annual Groundwater and Surface Water Monitoring Reports are submitted to the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MOECC) Director and Regional Director covering the activities of the previous year.
