Update on unplanned outage at Durham York Energy Centre
Whitby, Ontario – The Regional Municipality of Durham would like to advise the public that scheduled annual maintenance, at the Durham York Energy Centre (DYEC) has been moved up to accommodate the ongoing unplanned outage of boiler #2. Routine annual maintenance on boiler #2 was originally scheduled for March. Given the outage of boiler #2, the two-week scheduled maintenance for this unit will begin immediately. This rescheduling should allow for greater scheduling efficiency and not impact operation. While boiler #2 is offline, the DYEC’s boiler #1 will continue to operate and accept waste deliveries. The facility operator, Covanta, will also shut-down boiler #1 for annual routine scheduled maintenance once boiler #2 is back online. At this time it is anticipated that the scheduled maintenance for boiler #1 will occur in late February, early March.
